In _MG_0309_e1991 the peace vase project was born. 6200 small little yellow vase were created by the Dalai Lama of Tibet. These vases would contain prayers, special herbs and blessed in the holiest of ceremonies all in the purpose of placing them around the globe in the most war torn and pristine sites around the globe. Not to be left out the Filipino people was given several peace vases to be placed around the country. One of w/c our team from Bluewater inc. was given the chance to deploy of the coast of Batangas near Ligpo point, beside Diver’s Sanctuary.

The Dive started like any other inspection dive just to look for a safe place to place the peace vase. The water was not that great for visibility just over around 40 ft horizontal and around 50 ft vertical. None the less we found a crevice at around 90 ft from the surface that is perfect for the vase.

We hope that this would be deep enough and quite enough so as the vase would not be disturbed by the currents and other divers.

The Vase is made encased in a block of concrete that is specifically blended for marine use. This makes it quite resistant to water damage. Alas… it also makes it quite heavy to carry. Deploying it does take some skill and coordination between a surface tender on a boat and the team of divers below. They lowered the vase by line and we got it from the bottom, fastening some lines along a basket that is enough to hold it in. We inflated two 25 Ibs lift bags with air to make it lift of and we can carry it to its resting place 90ft from the surface. The task is not easy with just two lift bags and it does not get any easier if one of them sprung a leak! Glad to know that Dave Dy has a spare lift bag on him. After an emergency repair and a lot of air bubbles later… we got the vase to become neutrally buoyant. When that was achieved there was no problem to take it down and roll it in place.

Now that the peace vase is planted here in diver’s sanctuary the reef may now benefit from the good vibes it generates. May peace be propagated trough these vessels of hope.
